The roots of the Dodge brand run deep in the American automotive and technological past. The original Dodge company was formed in the turn of the 20th Century by brothers John and Horace Dodge. Early on, the Detroit-based venture focused on supplying parts to the more established car companies of the time, such as Ford and Oldsmobile. Soon, however, the Dodge Company would meet with so much success that the brothers would decide to take their venture to the next level by manufacturing complete vehicles that would compete with Ford and Oldmobile products.
The company would switch hands a number of times over the next few decades, and, like a true American brand, Dodge's level of success would fluctuate with the fate of the American public.
